This past Sunday, the black and orange of Comprehensive Racing invaded the Harpoon Brewery for the 1st Annual Indoor Time Trial. Not knowing how stiff the competition would be, we had 3 teams and 2 individual racers battling it out to see who could lay down the quickest times and biggest wattage! The environment was electric with the voice of New England bike racing, Richard Fries announcing each and every heat of 16 racers. With the music pumping, and the lights dimmed, it was the perfect environment to truly determine how much mental pain an athlete can handle! With that in mind, of the Comp Racing members out there, Lance M cranked out a blistering time of 21:35 at 320 W. Holy fast! The next individual to lay down the power was Warren M, in one of the hardest heats of the day he put down a 23:05. Next up came the teams and with the newest members of the Comprehensive Racing / Salem Cycle team hitting the computrainers, this would be the time to see how the winter training was coming along. Coming off the start at a blistering pace was our newest cycling stud, Ken T... 3 miles in, 1st place, cranking out the watts and he experiences a computer glitch. Gets it fixed, loses a few spots but gets right back to kicking out the watts and then, disaster... A flat. Who flats on a trainer?! Well as it turns out, Dave B, also flats on a trainer... Bummed but still smiling the rest of us tried to pick up the slack, to score a top 3 in our heat. Believe it or not, my little chicken legs snuck me into the top 100 for the day! Rounding out that heat was new comer Jonathan M, who, for the first time, showed his true colors of black and orange! Coming off of a winter tri the day before Nancy T and Paul P, held their own for our mixed relay teams laying down 181 W and 269 W respectively... THAT'S SERIOUS WATTAGE on what should have been a recovery day! Our last team, the ladies of Comp Racing, layed down the wattage with Christen J coming off of a season long injury and cranking out a time of 26:02. Pounding out the wattage sporting the black and orange, and coming off a successful 'cross season Roz P put down a time of 25:48 and 204 W. The smallest ladies of the team, Heather and Cheryl, were certainly not small on the bike, cranking out 152 W and 154 W, respectively, when you consider they weigh almost less than their carbon fiber bikes! Huge watts per KG! Team Captain Jen L, coming off illness and injury held lunch down to finish in 33:28, putting those early season spin classes to the test! Finally, rounding out the ladies team was Sherrie F-T, finishing in 27:43! Welcome to the team Sherrie! Congrats to everyone that raced! Congrats to the overall winner, Cort C for laying down a blistering 19:11 and 362 Watts! And to think a few years ago I raced 'cross with him as a Cat 4, now I couldn't even keep up with his warm-up! Conrgrats to all!!!!
Thats what i'm talking about! Everyone showing that they can out up a fierce fight! Hopefully we can do it again!
