Racing in 4 states and a Championship title!!!!

Comprehensive Racing has had some big weekends in the past, but I think this one might have taken the cake for showing the colors all over New England, including MA, NH, VT and RI! All that and a large chunk of the team is tapering for Lake Placid next weekend, so it was huge to have so much representation out there that we had to share in email form, not just on the blog. So without further adieu, here we go!

Black Fly Tri
Rumor has it that the water in Waterville Valley was still almost cold enough to make snow, but 3 brave Comp Racers headed up for the weekend. Cheryl and Vicki represented during the Saturday "international" distance race. Pulling in two top 10 in their age groups, Cheryl turned in a blistering 1:54:07 for 6th in her division out of 43 athletes, followed shortly by Vicki at 2:06:21 for 10th in her age group and her first international finish. And Vicki wouldn't be done there, she would get right back out there with her son on Sunday for the sprint race as a relay team getting a 4th in the Coed division! Awesome job guys!

Powwow Tri
The Powwow tri would signal the return of big "Cosmo" Matt G after a recent bike incident and showing his increasing form in his first year of tri's was newbie Jason "I party in Nashville" Miller. Matt G would discover what its like to be like Don, passing all sorts of riders and cars out on the road and then he would find his running legs to claim the #2 spot in the clydes!!! Jason turned in a solid 9th place finish in the ever increasingly difficult age group of 25 to 29 year olds! Awesome job guys!

Providence 70.3
In what was their first big fitness check leading up to Ironman WI in September, Heather "Iron-Mom" and Kid Cosmo would discover that indeed, water can have hills! Get this; for the age groupers, the water was so rough, that they were given the opportunity to turn the race into a duathlon, but, being Comp athletes and truly being able to conquer all challenges, Heather and Dave jumped right in and powered through the hilly swim! After a mechanical on the bike and some pretty nasty foot issues (I've seen the photos) Dave would survive about his 100th 1/2 Ironman in 6:41 followed very closely by Heather at 6:55 who had a very solid race. Way to represent guys on a super tough day!!!

XTERRA Sugarbush
Yes folks, you heard that right, we even had people at XTerra... Roz "I'm always smiling" Puleo would test her might in what would be described by Conrad Stoltz (he's a multi-world champ) as the toughest Xterra course that he has ever raced! In this case the swim didn't have hills, but the bike and run had more than their fair share... In fact, their was 2800 ft of muddy climbing on the bike in just 16.5 km. To put that in perspective, that's almost the same amount of climbing as Ironman Lake Placid, in about 100 less miles! Then she jumped off the bike and proceeded to run a 10K with, another 1500 ft of climbing!!! And through all of that, Roz finished in just over 5 hours and finished an awesome 3rd in her age group!!!! SWEETTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Old Colony
On a day that would see Comprehensive Racing defending their second place in the Grand Prix standings, Comprehensive would not only stretch out their lead over the New England Track and Trail team, but would also claim another honor... but first the results. Turning in a ridiculously fast 2:11:16 as he was starting his taper, Big Paul would claim another Clyde podium 2nd place. Following him, and also tapering for Lake Placid was a flying Nancy T, taking the win in her age group with a 2:20. Continuing the Ironman build was Bob D with a solid 2:30:03 and right on his heels, was Tonya "I only know how to go fast", taking a solid 5th is her division! Disney Dawnie, pulled in quickly behind them for a fifth in her division as well. And claiming another 5th place in his division, making a solid return to racing after an injury plagued 2008 season was Art "I put on an awesome 5K" Gray! And in her Olympic distance race debut and return to racing after recovering from 2008 injuries, Christen J turned in a solid 2:56! So with all those individuals, you'd think, we wouldn't have any teams...Well not so fast, because our 3 relay teams owned the podium! The super speedy relay of Tracey, Don and Chewy cruised to overall victory by just over 7 minutes!!!!! Not to be outdone, we had 2 all female relays, taking first and second in the division. First place was KCherbs and Elaine "I still rock on the bike even with a busted hip" Vescio followed shortly by Christine "I'm rockin' the hills" Buckley and making a special guest appearance in Comp Racing colors, Lyne Bessette (google her for more info). So you may be asking, with all that, what was the "other honor" that all these racers earned? Drum Roll Please.....

You are all now members of the Comprehensive Racing team that is the division 4...

2009 USAT Massachusetts Club Champions !!!!!!!!

Congrats to everyone that raced this weekend and is racing in the coming weeks, at Appleman and LAKE PLACID!!!! We have a huge crew of people heading up to Lake Placid to both watch and race, so stay tuned for the list!

On another note, Jen, Patrick and I wanted to thank all of you for all your hard work, representing our sponsors and the Black and Orange of Comprehensive Racing all over New England and the US. We are a team of individuals that truly embody the spirit of sport, balancing life and racing with style and grace and without all of you, the success of this team wouldn't be possible. How many other teams can say they had racers in 4 states, claiming points, podiums and championships?! Thank you for everything you do!

  1. Great write up, Kurt. Congratulations to the team for the big Championship!! And just to stack on more stuff, I raced my first crit last weekend at Wells Ave and of course, flew the colors. I hung in near the front till very near the end when the sprinters showed me how it's done. It's nice to be educated.
