RACE NEWS:

Mar 14thGSSS Championships sponsored by Redhook (Mt Washington Valley, NH)

If you braved the 3 hours drive through pouring rain last weekend you were rewarded at the top of the White Mtns Pinkham Notch with a winter wonderland, as that was the only spot snow was falling. In a snowshoe season that suffered thru many snow-less races that beat the hell out of your shoes or were just cancelled all together, this race was blessed with the best conditions and race course of the season as Acidotic put on a great Championship event. Only the hardy made it to the race start as 50 of the fastest racers in New England were on hand. Comp’s hardy crew included last year’s Nationals racers, Jay Curry, Dan Cooper, Bill Morse, Steph Cooper and yours truly Capt’n P. Although injury/surgery kept Steph and I from racing, young Tayler “Super-Sub” Smith (Son of Capt’n P) filled in the morning of the race to get a little more orange on the course. Tayler’s summary: “That was the hardest sport event ever!”. In 4-6 inches of fresh snow and heavy snow falling throughout, the 10k course followed the Great Glen ski trails at the base of Mt. Washington for 5k followed by another 5k of single track and hills. Jay Curry proclaimed, “That was the best course of the year!”. Of course the Salem Greens course laid out by Comp/DRR in January was a close second. Comp was led by Iron-Jay, and closely followed by Super Cooper Dan and Bucketman Bill, with Tayler learning the hard way this is not something you can just jump into (it hurt). Comp/DRR looks to a whiter 2011 season. (see attached for season ending picts)

Mar 14th – Malden St Patrick’s 10k (Malden, MA)

Newest team member, Tim Curley, took on the rain and wind that the snowshoers left behind at the St Pats 10k in Malden, MA. Tim noted headwinds that stood you up straight and streams of water that plagued the day but Tim was still able to pull off a PB time of 42:20 (I’ll take that on a nice day!) , finishing 2nd overall and 1st in age. Nice work Tim!
