Mar 13th - Granite State Snowshoe Series Championship 10k (Mt Washington -Gorham, NH ; Website ; www.granitestatesnowshoeseries.org

The venue at Mt Washington again is the best of the season with plenty of snow, as 60 shoers take on a 10k course that includes a 5k sprint through rolling groomed XC-ski tracks, thru a tunnel under Rt 16, and a hilly 5k finish that included 3 climbs (one a 700ft lung/leg burner), a long ¾ mile decent the had racers tumbling from 2-3ft post holing, and a finish designed by the DRR Captains that just could take the easy way back as it re-ascended only to go back down, snaking back and forth across valley-way in Cyclocross style fashion. The difficult finish did not sit well with some racers, but DRR loved it! The entire team was stupendous as DRR earned a 3rd for the day and retained 3rd in the series standings, edging out the 4th place team by a scant 18 points. DRR was scrambling to fill the team as many had to cancel late, but Sal “Panama-Jack” who just returned from a 2 month trip to Panama and Jamaica (talk about a temperature shock), and Steph Superlicious” Cooper brought her heaping mound of school project work to ensure we had the racers for a full team. The DRR racers finished: Capt P 18th (1:00:19), Iron-Jay Curry 25th (1:06:09), Sal “Panama-Jack” Genovese 27th (1:08:11), “Super-Cooper” Dan 33rd (1:11:34), Admiral Bill Bucketlist Morse 35th (1:12:37) and Steph “Superlicious’ Cooper 49th (1:34:39). For the season, the fantastic “Captains 4” kept the team high on the charts with final individual series results (min 5 races) of: Capt P (12th), Iron-Jay (17th), Super Cooper Dan (24th) and Admiral Bucketlist Bill (26th). Thank you all that snowshoed with us this season to help ensure we had a season to talk about.

Mar 20thOlde Salem Greens 5k XC Race (Salem, MA)

This race had a mere 70 runners back in 2006, just 5 years ago. This year 400 registered, 361 finishers. Where are all these runners coming from? The decade is the new running boom of the 70s. The XC race is one hilly bastard, and this early in the season, many were cursing the skies to the finish. Cold temps (below freezing) kept the ground from being too muddy, so the traction was good. All Comp runners finished in the upper 40% of their age groups for a banner black and Orange day. Comp finished: Capt P 16thth 12/49 (22:59), Tim “Slim-Speedy” Clarke 56th 2/38 (20:52), Dan Super-Cooper 34 11/38 (24:54), and Colin Doherty 20/49 (26:04).
