Weekly Update!
BI-WEEKLY NEWS SUMMARY: February 16, 2012
GENERAL NEWS
CAPTAINS CORNER: 2011 season recap and awards party is on for Sunday March 4th from 3pm-7pm at the at Scoreboard Sports Bar & Grill; conveniently located at 15 Middlesex Canal Park in Woburn (Exit 35 off Route 95 - next to Showcase Cinemas Woburn). Respond to the Evite by Monday Feb 27th.
COMP BIO: The Captains thank all that submitted team BIOs. Our final tally, 44 received!!! The Captains are grinning from wheel to wheel with all the responses from “What I like about Comp Racing”. We love you guys!
COMP BLOG: The Captains have been placing more and more news on the Comp Blog www.comprehensive-racing.blogspot.com, but the blog has very few followers (17 to be precise and that includes Tula the mascot!). We encourage you to visit the blog and be a follower. We don’t want to start shifting more news to the blog if no one is going there. Being a follower to the Comp Blog also helps us show our sponsors (listed on the Blog) that we have an active following. Most recent news on the Blog is a great article on Mighty-John, “Meet the World’s Most Famous Little Triathlete” on
EnduroGuide. Check it out! Also, take the time to Friend Comp Racing on Facebook. Show the force behind Comp Racing!
NEW TO THE BLOG – COMP EVENTS CALENDAR: At the top of the Blog is a tab “Comp Racing Events”. Click on it and you can see we’ve started to populate this calendar with races being attended by Comp Racers. We are trying to get to a point where anyone on the team can add their upcoming races to the schedule or add their name to a race already on the schedule. This way we can track our racers and you can see who is also attending your race. Until we get to that point, we’ll post for you. Send your race info (keep it to just races in March/April for now) including the hyperlink for the event and all comp racers that you know are attending to Capt Kosmo at daboyle2258@yahoo.com and Kosmo will input the race info. Check the Comp Calendar before you e-mail Dave to check if the race is already posted, if it is just ask to add your name as an attendee. This calendar will become the Comp Center for races.
RACE REPORTS
GREAT STEW CHASE 15K (9.5mi) (Lynn, MA) February 5th: Great turnout and effort by the Comp Racers at the 38th annual Great Stew Chase on a stellar sunny 29-degree running day, perfect. A far cry from last year where 4 feet of snow had the race director scrambling to reschedule the event. A rolling course with a monster hill at the turn-around made the homemade stew at the finish that much better tasting. Comp raced 9 and raced well in a field of 280. Leading Comp was Capt P in 35th with a 6:58 pace, followed by Iron-Jay Curry in 81st (7:53), Tim “Slim-Speedy” and Dan “Super-Cooper” in 112 and 113 (8:15), Kev Curry 179, Denise”TRX-Girl” Murphy 204, Richie “Metalurgist” Lewis 234, and Steph “Superlicious” Cooper and Big Stu Greeley in 251 and 252. Full race results can be found in the in the “Race Results” section.
SNOWSHOEING (GSSS Whittaker Woods): What a tough year for snow shoeing. Dozens of races cancelled, only a couple races in New England held, including only one Granite State Series race to date, Whittaker Woods in North Conway. And Comp was represented….by one……..a shadow….. the Panama Shadow, Sal Genovese. Living up to his nickname as no one knew he was there. Up, race, back, 2 weeks later the news trickles down. Great results from Sal as the lone Comp/DRR racer placed 12th overall. Next race, Beaverbrook (Hollis, NH) on the 26th? Probably cancelled. Look to Horse Hill in Merrimack, NH on March 3rd with fingers crossed.
UPCOMING RACES (February)
Word has it Comp racers will be at both of these upcoming events. Do you have an event approaching? Let us know.

CHARITY EFFORTS
MSPCA Nevins Farm Spin-a-thon(February 11th summary): Congrats Andy “Master-Velo” Masia! Andy participated in a 3-hour spin-a-thon on 2/11 to raise money and support the MSPCA Nevins Farm in Methuen. MSPCA-Angell: Nevins Farm is special. Like other rescue facilities they have a new dog and cat rescue and adoption center, but unlike others they also provide permanent homes for a wide range of larger and farm animals that are hard to place in adoptive homes…horses, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, rabbits. Nice work Andy.

Big Congrats!) to support the fight against diabetes. Go to this link to join our team: http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/EasternNewEnglandArea?team_id=527862&pg=team&fr_id=8028.
