Northern Runners...

From the North....A wild and full weekend of pavement pounding
Saturday May 2
Foothealth 5k
Derry NH
On Saturday 4 Members of the Orange and Black took part in the Foot Health 5k located in Derry. All members are also part of the Greater Derry Track Club. This is the 2nd race in the Grand Prix Series. Vixini, the little Devil-ette, burned up the roads with a killer 6:59 Pace and a top 3 in the age group and capturing points for the GDTC. KCherbs rocked out with a very impressive PR and picking them up and putting them down at a 7:42 pace placing a top 10 in the age group. Little Miss Iron-Mom Heather, kicking her season off with a very respectable 19/33 in the age group and carrying her consistent pace of 9:10's...Doesn't matter the distance..She's like clockwork...and always smiling at the finish...Kid Kosmo took to the 5k, knowing this is a distance he can actually finish and hold a respectable time with out a trip to the med tent...After seeing KCherbs blow thru the first mile at 7:22, Kosmo slowly picked up the pace and finished the last mile with a 6:58 and average 7:30....The Pomegranate Vixini's were flowing at the finish and all had a good days effort...

Sunday May 3
Providence Marathon/ 1/2 Marathon and 5k
Providence RI
Sunday, 2 members of the Orange and Black pulled a double down at the 2nd Annual Providence Rhode Races...Not quite the Wicked Half doubled with the Lone Gull...But close.
Kid Kosmo laced up the shoes and ventured out to the 1/2 Marathon
Iron-mom faced the fast and furious 5k
A wonderful surprise was to see Friend Of Comp Stephan Meyer competing in his first Marathon after his better half, Sage Boyle; knocked down and PR'd her race at Boston with a 4:25
The Half marathon course was dramatically different from last years run. This course can be fast and PR's can be had with some long sloping up and down grades. Mile 8 began a stretch of flat that ran along the river for about 3 miles before heading back into town. The race support was thin but appreciated. The start and finish were centered in downtown Providence at the Westin. The race festival atmosphere was fantastic with all types of races, runners and walkers. The race goodies were there to be enjoyed by anyone that came to support the participants and makes for a good family day as well.
The 5k was well attended and was prepped to be a very fast finish. The winner crossed the line 2 minutes ahead of racer #2...The course wrapped and looped thru downtown Providence with multiple turns and some gradual climbs. The 5k was finishing as the Marathoners were crossing the line and the support was fantastic. Little miss Iron-Mom Heather coming off a respectable Foot Health 24 hours earlier, dropped her time by nearly 20 secs and of course crossed with a smile...
In the marathon, Stephan headed out and had his goal set for 4 hours. He ended with a 4:15 and a trip to the Med tent for a few bags of fluid....I can't blame the guy...The weather was almost perfect. The humidity was a touch high and dehydration could have been an issue. The Marathon times were fast as well with top runners finishing under 6 min/ mile. For crazy people looking for a good qualifying Spring Boston Race..this could be worth the trip.
