RACE NEWS:

Jan 9th – Olde Salem Green 5k Snowshoe Race (Salem, MA) w/ support from Dungeon Rock Racing

This race has put snowshoeing on the map in the New England area. A record number of entrants 220ish, a record number of finishers 191 in New England, and was second only to a race in Saratoga NY by 5 finishers for races in the Northeast US, ever! Hat’s off to Eileen “Spielberg” Dunn, director of the race and Comp Racer, for a race enjoyed by all. There were plenty of give-a-ways (race socks, gloves), winner’s/volunteers received race hats, and raffles for all kinds of stuff, and Bill Morse headed up Dion snowshoe loaners as 40 pairs of free loaners were provided. The first-timers and the experienced all enjoyed this one. Eileen thanked DRR for the race support, but the big support came from Bill Morse. Bill you are the man! The course engineered by DRR was spectacular, a 3-mile race that included a mile of in-and-out open filed racing thru the golf course, a 1.3 mile winding single track thru Salem Woods, ending with more open field and an “you can’t be serious!” uphill finish. Congrats to first time Snowshoers Roz, Erin, Tara & Jamie and congrats to the impressive top 25 finish by “this stuff is great, but I suck at it” (his quote), but no longer, Matt “Lean-Mean-Fightin-Machine” Garceau . DRR/Comp had a strong 22 member field of male and female racers finishing in the 191 lead by Iron-Jay Cury and Tara Crowley:

COMP MEN: 23rd-Jay Curry, 24-Patrick Smith, 25-Matt Garceau, 33-Sal Genovese, 38-Dan Cooper, 45-Bill Morse, 67-Jamie Crowley, 71-Art Gray, 73-Paul Copeland, 74-Erin Bennett, 98-Richie Lewis, 103-Stu Greeley

COMP WOMEN: 66-Tara Crowley, 91-Roz Puleo, 94-Steph Cooper, 101-Christen Johnsen, 126-Denise Murphy, 151-Aubrey Gray

Jan 9th/10th – Disney Marathon and more, Orlando, FL

What!? 20-degrees at Disney! Gatorade slush! Freezing Rain! Sounds more like a snow-shoe race.

Team Incredibles (Dawnie/Bob/Bryce): Wonderful write up Disney-Dawnie (or is that Tigger Dawnie? Need to see a picture of that running outfit). Bryce “Jr incredibles” is looking like the future of Comp with a stellar 5k 27-min run to start the weekend. Superstar performance by Bob “Incredibles” Desmaris with a Boston Qualifying time of 3:28 after running the ½ the day before. Tigger-Disney Dawnie joined Bob in completing the Disney Triple Crown, the Goofy Medal.

Jodi’s Crew (Jodi/Peter& Blake/Chaz): Live from correspondent Peter “Steath-Warrior” Wronski……..

“Hmm, hard to be a stealth warrior when Dawnie seems to find us everywhere we go!! 55,000 people were there for marathon weekend and still we get caught ;-)”

“Friday: Up at 5am for the 5k fun run. Jodi, Blake (my 14 year old daughter) and I fought our way into the start chute, ran, had a BLAST and my daughter took 4 minutes off her time from last year, she is a dancer and not a runner” ( Sounds like the Comp Jr troops is building with Blake, Bryce, and Tyler! Way to go youngsters!).

“Saturday: Jodi and I were up at 3 for the half marathon ran into “the Incredibles” trying to get thru the bag check tent. Got pelted with a wintry mix to start the race, but were pretty well prepared with garbage bags to keep warm at the start. Cruised the race and didn’t want it to end, the fun just went too fast. Spent the rest of the day there at EPCOT, ate in Italy. It was cold, but not unbearable.” (Cold and Florida is just not right)

“Sunday: Jodi, Chaz “Mr Determination”, and I were up at 3 (almost starting to get used to this by now ;-). Lost Chaz before the start in the crowds! Just cruised the race, took a lot of photos (Mr. Incredible, Capt. Jack Sparrow, Mary Poppins, Jodi even jumped in with the Gospel Choir!) and were again very disappointed every time we came to the next mile marker, we just didn’t want it to end, it is just too much fun to be called a marathon! This was Jodi's 4th Goofy and my 2nd and it does not get old! We are probably going to sign up for the 2011 version of the Goofy, it is just too much fun to miss! (Hmmm, I think I have to try this)

Jan 10th – Weston Winter Duathlon

Who’s nickname was persevered “Got Medal” or “Got Speedo”, or both? The medals win here as JP finishes 2nd in the Masters male, 6th overall of 55 diehard Winter Tri Racers, and Nancy takes a 1st Masters, 4th woman overall, in a race that started out at 3 degrees! Brrrrrr! It didn’t trump the negative temp of last year’s Gunstock Winter Tri, but that is damm cold. Congrats on a great start to the 4 race winter tri series.

(IF U GOT RACE NEWS, SEND ME A WRITEUP, I’LL POST ANY DISTANCE, ‘CUS ITS ALL FUN STUFF)

I can’t print it if I don’t know about it.
